- What is the procedure for availing exchange facility for medical treatment abroad ?
Application should be made to an authorised dealer in form TRM 1 duly certified by the treating physician/surgeon together with a copy of passport of the patient and copies of the correspondence with the overseas doctor/ hospital.
- What is the quantum of exchange a person can draw for undergoing medical treatment abroad ?
For Hospitalisation Up to the estimate given by the overseas doctor/hospital. For Pre/ Post Hospitalisation U.S.$ 150 per day up to the period recommended by the treating physician/ surgeon but subject to a maximum of two months.
- Is a person accompanying the patient as attendant eligible to avail of foreign exchange facility ?
Yes, up to U.S.$ 1 50 per day for the period of the stay of the patient.
- Whether a person who has fallen ill after proceeding abroad on business, etc., visits is eligible for release of foreign exchange for medical treatment ?
Yes, Such persons should apply to the Reserve Bank with a certificate in form TRM 2 duly signed by the medical practitioner nominated by the Indian Mission in the country concerned.
- Can foreign exchange be released to a person for medical check-up/ consultation abroad ?
Yes. Authorised dealers can remit up to U.S.$ 500 for this purpose.
